Trip Introduction

The Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda is the most easily accessible high mountain valley from Kathmandu. Langtang Gosainkunda Trek combines three major areas along the border of Tibet, Langtang, Helambu and Gosian Kund. There are no 8000m peaks in the Vicinity (unless you count Shisha Pangma across the border in Tibet) It makes up for in a base- to –peak rises that are as dramatic as anywhere. Langtang Gosainkunda Trek trek offers an opportunity to explore villages, to climb small peaks and to visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation.

In contrast with the Langtang and Gosainkunda Treks make straight for specific destinations. It gains elevation quickly and then leaves you to explore at your own pace. The holy lake of Gosainkunda is at 4,300m. The culture is not a big part of either except during Janai Purnima. A massive Hindu pilgrimage is held at Gosain Kund during the full moon of July – August.  The lake is also sacred to Buddhists. Hindu legend has it that the lakes were formed when the God Siva plunged his trident (Trishul) into the ground in order to obtain water. The Trisuli River has its source in the lakes; thus the name.

Helambu valley is very popular for the beautiful culture of Helmu and Helmuly are very similar to Tamang and Sherpas. The area covers typical highland Sherpa and Tamang, villages along with beautiful Rhododendron forests. This region extends from the north to Taramarang to the Gosaikunda Lake and the lower Jugal Himal from the north. It lies in the north of Kathmandu through Trishuli Valley River.
