Trip Introduction

Upper Dolpo is the hidden land in the wilderness area of the Dolpo region. The region is sweeping, windswept vistas and traditional Tibetan culture with ancient monasteries and Gompas. The biggest National Park of Nepal She Phoksundo, Shey Gompa and Shey Phoksundo Lake are all located in this region and it can be reached your dreams fulfil by Upper Dolpo Trek. The trekking region is quite strenuous and due to geographical remoteness. Trekking to high passes is Kang La 5365m, Jeng La Pass at 5110m and Shey La at 5000m. It is very challenging to the trekkers. But as with all challenges in Nepal nature will reward you with great views and memories.

Through Upper Dolpo Trek, we can find an inspiring region of the deep valleys, unclimbed peaks and landscape of natural vegetation and rare wildlife which makes the region one of the interesting regions to explore. Likewise, the highlights of the Trek in Upper Dolpo region are Juphal, Kageni, Dunai, Chhepka, Shey Gompa, Saldang, Rinje, Dho and Lingdo. However, the trekking can be strenuously long and technically difficult and so Top of the World treks & Expeditions does recommend a good level of fitness before undertaking this trek.

Upper Dolpo region found that the valleys of the upper Bheri and Langu (Dolpo) watersheds have been divided into subregions. Tarap, Tsharbung, Namgung and Panjang are the sub-regions. These four areas compose the Tibet – Like culture region of Dolpo. People believe that Guru Rimpoche had blessed this region. It is seen to be a very spiritual place away from hustle and bustle of everyday life. The opportunity to explore this region also gives you an opportunity to see the wildlife of the area. Moreover, it includes different endangered animals like blue sheep and snow leopard and precious plants like silvery fir.

Equipment Check – List

What clothing and equipment to take is one of the things that people worry the most about!  We can advise you and help you and it does, of course, depend on the time of year, the area, the altitude and how many days you are trekking/climbing. When you arrive in Kathmandu we will go through all your equipment to ensure that it is correct for your trip. In Thamel (the tourist area of Kathmandu where you will be staying) there is an abundance of shops selling equipment and clothing so if anything is forgotten it can easily be sourced. It is also possible to hire climbing equipment and also items such as down jackets, and sleeping bags saving you a large purchase.

The following equipment list is suggested and necessary for both camping and tea house treks. Use this list as a guideline. The basic checklist should help you with your packing for any of our trips. Please remember that you should always try to keep the weight of your clothing equipment down to a minimum. Your packed trek bag should weigh no more than 15kg. Please remember this is just a checklist and you do not necessarily need to bring everything that is listed below.
